Vision
Statement |
Shalom Christian Academy is an outreach program of Christian believers designed to develop the TOTAL CHILD. We create an environment that will teach, train, and motivate children to learn properly. As a result, this systematic process will help the children re-establish their God-given identity and creativeness to fulfill their perspective roles in society and break the rampant cycles of generational Addictive Failures. Ultimately, bringing their lives to completeness so that they become an asset to any community.

Many people have a lifelong dream. However, few actually get to see that dream become a reality. Luticha Griffin was one of those rare people, said her brother, John Fonville. Just before she died, Ms. Griffin saw her dream of starting a Christian academy realized when she started the Shalom Christian Academy. Continuing the project, however, will require the efforts of others, he said. “She got to see her dream come true, but we need the community to help keep the vision going,” Fonville said. Luticha L. Griffin of Columbia died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, of unknown causes at University Hospital. She was 52. Ms. Griffin was born Feb. 21, 1951, in Decatur, IL, to Amos and Geraldine Freeman Fonville. She graduated in 1969 from Eisenhower High School in Decatur, IL. After completing her education, she went on to become the director of Columbia’s Head Start program. Ms. Griffin dedicated her life to her family and her religion, Fonville said. “She was the type of person who would always be there to help everyone,” he said. “She loved kids and working with youth. Her whole life was helping people.” In addition to working with children in Head Start, Ms. Griffin also owned and operated a home day-care center. When she wasn’t there, she could be found pursuing one of her other loves — church. Ms. Griffin directed choir and attended the Church of the Covenant in Columbia and was also affiliated with Faith Walk Ministries in Paris, MO. She loved to bake cakes and cook for her family, and never shied away when someone needed help, Fonville said. “My sister was always there for me when I needed her,” he said. “Whatever time I would call her, day or night, she would always be there.” Even people Ms. Griffin didn’t know well were considered part of the family, Fonville said. “There were no strangers to her,” he said. “She touched lives all over Illinois and Missouri.” The school opened June 9, 2003 and the daycare started July 15, 2003.
